Episode #38: The Meg

Welcome back fellow film nerds!  Today Matt and Mike review a giant piece of crap that they do not understand why it is doing so well at the box office, The Meg.  Things get off the rails fast! The guys start talking about baby names, online gaming in the early 90’s, and of course MoviePass. Mike mostly wanted to see if Matt had finally cancelled his subscription, nope!  Back on topic, did The Meg get such amazing box office numbers over opening weekend because it was rated PG-13 instead of R and why the hell is Ruby Rose’s hair constantly wet in this movie for no reason?  The guys finish the review by getting serious a bit about animals and their senseless killing such as sharks to make only shark fin soup.  They do not go too in depth but the boys do voice their thoughts on the subject.

The Meg was bad, really really bad, and the guys agree you should not waste your money on it.  Matt was too kind like always and gave it 2.5 out of 5 Reels.  Mike handed out the lowest rating in Reel Film Nerds history with a 1 out of 5 Reels.  Seriously don’t see this movie but do listen to the podcast.  It is a good one even with all the off topic nonsense!  Make sure check back on Thursday for the guys second Tributary cast for the Netflix Original Movie starring Paul Rudd, Mute.

Five years ago, expert sea diver and Naval Captain Jonas Taylor encountered an unknown danger in the unexplored recesses of the Mariana Trench that forced him to abort his mission and abandon half his crew. Though the tragic incident earned him a dishonorable discharge, what ultimately cost him his career, his marriage and any semblance of honor was his unsupported and incredulous claims of what caused it – an attack on his vessel by a mammoth, 70-foot sea creature, believed to be extinct for more than a million years. But when a submersible lies sunk and disabled at the bottom of the ocean – carrying his ex-wife among the team onboard – he is the one who gets the call. Whether a shot at redemption or a suicide mission, Jonas must confront his fears and risk his own life and the lives of everyone trapped below on a single question: Could the Carcharodon Megalodon – the largest marine predator that ever existed – still be alive … and on the hunt?
