Episode #80: Legacy – Clyde Cooper

Good day everyone!  Today Matt and Mysterious Mike have a real treat for you.  They received their first ever screener!!  Exciting right?  It is for us!  The film the guys are chatting about is titled Clyde Cooper.  It is a detective film noir murder mystery B movie that takes place in Silicon Valley.  Off topics for this episode include the Micro Machine guy, power hour, and vaping.

Clyde Cooper is an interesting story but a rough execution.  The writing is really bad and flat out doesn’t make sense at times.  The acting really could have been a lot better.  Some of the camera angles and shooting styles that were chosen to tell the story did not work.  The opening of the film is very strange and could have been completely left out or explained more.  This film just left your hosts wanting more.  It feels rushed and really could have been entertaining if it was executed right.  Mysterious Mike gives Clyde Cooper 1 out 5 Reels.  Matt is a little more generous as always because he did enjoy the story as a whole.  The premise intrigued him.  He gives the film 1.5 out of 5 Reels.

Next week your hosts return with a review of Glass the highly anticipated sequel to Unbreakable and Split.  Let’s hope all the critics are wrong and that Glass is a good movie.  We will let you know Tuesday.  Our second pod of the week on Thursday, the guys will finally get around to reviewing You Were Never Really Here after talking about it for over a week.  If you have Amazon Prime it is streaming there right now.  Watch it along with us.  Thanks for listening and we will chat at you next week.

Episode #79: Replicas

Happy Tuesday everyone, literally it’s one of the worst days of the week.  Yes everyone says it’s Monday but we all know it is really Tuesday except for the tacos.  Today your two co-hosts review Keanu Reeves first craptastic film of 2019, Replicas.  Serious Keanu just stick with John Wick those films are incredible.  Bonus topics this week include Altered Carbon, movie critics suck, and Matt has a case of the Monday’s.

Replicas is just an all around bad movie.  The acting was terrible, they tried to cram too many stories into an hour and 47 minute film, oh and did I mention the acting was terrible, yes?, just wanted to make sure.  If you love sci-fi, cloning, and a dystopian future just go watch the Netflix TV show Altered Carbon.  It is similar to Replicas in a lot of ways but a hell of a lot better.  Matt and Mike cannot recommend anyone to go see this film.  It’s just bad.  They both graciously give it 2 out of 5 Reels.

Coming up on Thursday the guys received their very first screener from a movie studio, Clyde Cooper.  It is a film noir crime drama based in Silicon Valley dealing with tech and deception.  If you are interested in watching it before Thursday it is available on Amazon to buy or rent.  Have a good week and chat at you then!

Episode #78: Tributary – Bird Box

Hi everybody!  Welcome back to the Reel Film Nerds Podcast!  Today Matt’s backup mic is working great!  Overtime even because it literally picks up every sound in the room.  Today Mysterious Mike and Matt bring you a new Tributary cast with their review of Bird Box.  Off topic topics include a new segment what are you drinking, The Walking Dead, lack of time in our lives, and lastly the first RFN awards show!

Bird Box is basically a mash up between A Quiet Place (RFN Episode #10) and The Happening.  It is an incredible thrill ride from start to finish.  The acting is incredible especially by Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich but honestly when do they not shine?  The story is very good, and the sets look great.  I think this is starting to become an issue, but both of your hosts agree Bird Box has a great showing for Mike and an average showing for Matt with 3.5 out of 5 Reels!  This is a must see sci-fi thriller even if you do not have Netflix.  Just steal a friend or co-workers login and watch it.

Next week the guys plan on watching the new Keanu Reeves film Replicas and either Bomb City or You Were Never Really Here.  Both are currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.  Thanks for your continued support of our podcast.  We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoy recording it!  Chat with you next Tuesday!

Episode #77: Aquaman

Hi everybody and welcome to another craptastic Reel Film Nerds podcast!  Hey its been a long time since we had a truly craptastic episode and it’s all Matt’s fault!  He had some serious recording issues this episode, so his audio is hot garbage.  Mysterious Mike sounds great so only have the podcast is craptastic?  Back on point, something broke in his mic and he did not know it so if you skip this pod we understand just don’t skip seeing Aquaman in the theaters.  The guys still had fun and got off topic probably too much while talking about Aquaman.  Extracurricular topics include The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Disney taking over the world, Star Wars of course, and Marvel versus DC.

Both of your hosts loved Aquaman.  It is a fun cheesy movie with gobs of action and incredible visuals.  This is what superhero movies are supposed to be. Not all of them must be extremely serious and grounded.  Having one be an amazing popcorn action flick where the actors had tons of fun making it is refreshing. Mysterious Mike and Matt agree Aquaman is a must see in theaters basically because it is just so darn pretty!  They both give the film 4 out of 5 Reels!

This Thursday the guys talk about the Netflix movie that is exploding across the Internets, Bird Box.  They attempt to understand why it is so popular and even sparking Internet challenges. Chat at you on Thursday where we promise the audio won’t sound like crap, well less crap Matt is still co-hosting the podcast for now.

Episode #76: Triple Feature

Welcome everyone to our first Triple Feature episode.  We did our best to keep it to a half hour but failed miserably.  Today your amazing hosts Matt and Mysterious Mike reviewed Bumblebee, Welcome to Marwen, and Vice.  Extracurricular topics included wrestling actors, camera’s, and politics.  To tell you the truth they mostly kept on topic throughout each review.  Matt even reigned in Mike a couple of times if you can believe it!

We are going to try to keep our show notes short and sweet so you can spend your time listen to our pod and not reading about it.  To sum it all up quickly go see Bumblebee and Vice.  Skip Welcome to Marwen unless you are really bored and want to see Steve Carell give one of his best performances ever.  Here go our ratings if you want to skip actual podcast.  Bumblebee, Matt likes it a ton but he is a giant nerd who grew up loving Transformers.  He gives it 4 out of 5 Reels.  Mike really enjoyed it but like always is harsh with his ratings, he gives Bumblebee 3.5 out of 5 Reels.  Neither of your hosts thought highly of Welcome to Marwen.  Mike gives it 2.5 out of 5 Reels.  Matt really was let down by this film and rated it lower than Mike giving it 2 out of 5 Reels.  Our last review is Adam McKay’s Vice.  Matt really enjoyed Vice but thought some of the story telling elements were just weird and take you out of the film.  He awards Vice 3.5 out of 5 Reels.  Mike on the other hand really loved Vice awarding it his highest rating of the 3 films with 4 out of 5 Reels.

We hope you enjoyed our first Triple Feature podcast.  If you did or did not please email or message us and let us know.  Maybe we will do this again when another movie-pocalypse is upon us!  Next week Matt and Mike review Aquaman on Tuesday and another film on Thursday.  What film is the question.  Maybe that new Netflix movie everyone is losing their minds over Bird Box.  Chat at you on Tuesday!
