Episode #35: Tributary – Anon

Welcome listeners new and old (not physically) to our first Tributary cast!  A Tributary cast is a review of a movie only available on a streaming service such as Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, etc. This week Matt and Mike review a Netflix original Sci-Fi thriller Anon.  It is a fun trippy technology filled look into a dystopian future where privacy flat out doesn’t exist.  The guys dive deep on this topic, they both love tech but also see the coming storm and the end of privacy or what little we have left.  They also discuss augmented reality versus virtual reality and how close they are to becoming everyday tech.  Mike gets Matt going again about the death of MoviePass especially with their developments, price changes, and lack of blockbuster films new releases.  Things continue off topic for a bit with chat about TCL televisions, Roku vs Apple TV vs Fire Stick, and what is the best device to stream movies on.  Last but not least they guys discuss their new partnership with Prescott Valley based news organization SignalsAZ.com and how you can where you can find our podcast on their site.

Anon is a must-see thriller if you are into detective movies and technology.  Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried do a fantastic job. The sets are dark and gritty and the graphic overlays are just amazing!  Matt loved this movie he gives it 4 out of 5 Reels.  Mike enjoyed the film as well but like always he is more critical then Matt.  He gives Anon 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

Episode #34: Mission: Impossible – Fallout

Your mission if you choose to accept it is to listen to this podcast then rate and review the Reel Film Nerds on iTunes!  Anything to get a response out of our listeners, right?  This week Matt and Mike review the latest Tom Cruise action flick Mission: Impossible – Fallout.  It is a fun fast paced action movie with incredible practical effects and amazing stunts. The guys get off topic as they always do and discuss the continued slide of MoviePass with a dash of John Travolta and his airplane collection. Did Henry Cavill really have to have a mustache for this film and ruin a part of Justice League because of it, or does he just have a hard time growing facial hair? Lastly they get into their personal blu-ray collections and what they have bought in the bargain bins lately such as Big Trouble in Little China a classic and probably upcoming Legacy Cast!

Mike and Matt agree that Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a great popcorn action movie.  It is a must see in a theater and worth your hard-earned money.  If you can believe it the guys agreed on a rating again!  They both give Mission: Impossible – Fallout 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

Episode #33: Legacy – Jaws

Welcome to a very special Legacy Cast!  Today Matt and Mike talk about Jaws in honor of the Discovery Channel’s 30th annual Shark Week!!  Jaws is one of Mike’s favorite movies of all time, but he is bias due to his love of sharks.  Matt lets Mike take the lead on this episode but asks him a lot of fun interesting questions. The boys also discuss the differences between a horror movie and a thriller at least in their eyes.  There is lots of fun trivia discussed including the name of the Jaws prop shark and its relation to Finding Nemo.  Lastly was Mike able to keep the Marvel Cinematic Universe streak alive even with a movie made in 1975?

I am not sure we even need to tell you our ratings for Jaws, but we are going to anyways.  Mike loves Jaws without a question.  It is probably his second most watch film.  He hands out his second perfect score with a 5 out of 5 Reels.  Matt also loves Jaws a lot, but he can’t get over how the shark looks.  Clearly, he has been spoiled with the recent developments in digital and practical effects.  Matt still loves the film and gives it a very respectable 4.5 out of 5 Reels.  Basically, if you have not seen Jaws you need to go watch it, NOW!

Release Date: June 20, 1975

Storyline from IMDB

It’s a hot summer on Amity Island, a small community whose main business is its beaches. When new Sheriff Martin Brody discovers the remains of a shark attack victim, his first inclination is to close the beaches to swimmers. This doesn’t sit well with Mayor Larry Vaughn and several of the local businessmen. Brody backs down to his regret as that weekend a young boy is killed by the predator. The dead boy’s mother puts out a bounty on the shark and Amity is soon swamped with amateur hunters and fisherman hoping to cash in on the reward. A local fisherman with much experience hunting sharks, Quint, offers to hunt down the creature for a hefty fee. Soon Quint, Brody and Matt Hooper from the Oceanographic Institute are at sea hunting the Great White shark. As Brody succinctly surmises after their first encounter with the creature, they’re going to need a bigger boat.

Episode #32: The Equalizer 2

Are you ready to get equalized?  Yes, then we have a treat for you today with our review of The Equalizer 2!  Matt gets off topic by talking about Denzel Washington and his Prescott connection.  That turns into a talk about guns then they both go full off topic and profess their love for Denzel Washington.  Who doesn’t love him right?  He has made some amazing movies!  Basically, your hosts spent half the podcast talking about Denzel and their favorite movies of his.  What I am trying to say here is if you don’t like Denzel Washington just skip this podcast.

Finally we get a movie that is not absolute crap!  It feels like a month of just bad movies for us.  Matt and Mike really liked The Equalizer 2.  It is a fun sequel that is a great standalone film too.  The ending is not great and the pacing of the film is awkward but for the most par this is really a great movie!  Mike gives The Equalizer 2 a respectable 3 out of 5 Reels.  Matt is nowhere near as harsh as Mike is when it comes to ratings especially for his boy Denzel.  He gave the film 4 out of 5 Reels.

Thank you for subscribing and listening to our podcast!  Don’t forget to check out this Thursday’s Legacy Cast in honor of the 30th annual Shark Week  with our review of the original summer blockbuster Jaws!!!

Episode #31: Skyscraper

WOW, 31 episodes and we are still going?  Why?  This week Mike and Matt discuss another bad movie you should not go see, Skyscraper staring The Rock “Dwayne” Johnson.  The boys talk about their love of Die Hard and why it is a Christmas movie no matter what Bruce Willis says!  They also discuss how Skyscraper blatantly ripped it off without question. Was Mike able to keep his Marvel Cinematic Universe streak alive, of course!  There is also even more talk about the unlimited movie services such as MoviePass, AMC A-List, and Cinemark Movie Club.  There is no rant on this one just a regular review of a bad movie.

Matt and Mike both found this movie to be nothing special.  It was boring, a giant copy of great movies, a bad story, (seeing a pattern here?) just to name a few of its issues.  Mike gives Skyscraper a 2 out of 5 Reels.  Matt rated it a little bit higher (purely based on seeing hottie Neve Campbell on the big screen again) with a 2.5 out of 5 Reels.

Thank you for subscribing and listening to our podcast!  We will talk at you next Tuesday with our review of The Equalizer 2.  Don’t forget we will be doing a special Legacycast a week from today in honor of the 30th annual Shark Week by Discovery Channel with the original summer blockbuster Jaws!!!
