Episode #256: Tributary – Being the Ricardos

Hello faithful listeners and welcome to our fourth review for 2022! Today Mike and Matt chat about Being the Ricardos starring Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem. Off topics today include Southpark returns, Must See TV Thursday’s, and Mike’s dad jokes just won’t die!

What happens when you pair two Academy Award winning actors together with Academy Award winning writer/director Aaron Sorkin? You get an amazing biopic about one of TV’s most iconic couples, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Sorkin can be a real tough pill to swallow. He loves lots of dialogue and jumping around timelines without letting the viewer know. If you can look past those two things you are in for a treat with Being the Ricardos. The acting is some of the best of 2020 and the story is harrowing. If Nicole Kidman is not nominated for an Oscar for her role as Lucy, Matt is going to protest in the streets! Being the Ricardos is not for everyone but it is well worth a watch on Amazon Prime. Mike with the high score this week awards the film 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt also really enjoyed the movie, dropping his rating a smidge with 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

For next week Mike and Matt review their first Apple TV+ Original with Mike’s pick The Tragedy of Macbeth starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week!

Episode #254: Tributary – The Unforgivable

Well 2022 is here and it is starting out rough. COVID is rearing its ugly head again but let’s not talk about that. It’s movie podcast time with your buddies Mike and Matt! For pod 254 the boys chat about Sandra Bullock’s latest Netflix Original The Unforgivable. Off topics include work smells, Hawkeye, and fajitas.

This film is a bit of a sneak attack. There was not a lot of promotion for it, has a great cast, and is full of twists. The Unforgivable follows the story of Ruth Slater, Sandra Bullock, after spending the last 20 years of her life behind bars for murder. Slater is just trying to keep her head down, get a job, and find her long lost younger sister. Things quickly start to unravel as the layers of the story are uncovered. The acting is amazing, the way the story is told is very well executed, and the twists complete the package. Matt and Mike both agree The Unforgivable is a great movie and worth a watch. Matt with the higher rating gives it 4 out of 5 Reels. Mike also enjoyed the film awarding it 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

For next week Mike and Matt chat about a film they missed in theaters late last year, The Last Duel directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, Jodie Comer, and Adam Driver. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week!

Episode #247: Tributary – Red Notice

Happy Wednesday boys and girls! Today your host’s Mike and Matt chat about a summer blockbuster that was released on Netflix in November; Red Notice starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds. Extra pod thoughts include Dragon Boobs, Indiana Jones, and The Rock 4 President.

The timing for Red Notice is either genius or a big mistake. This film is nonstop action that takes place all over the globe. It stars three of the biggest actors of 2021. Lastly the story is a cross between the National Treasure and James Bond franchises. Oh Netflix, why didn’t you release this one in May or June? Red Notice is a heck of a fun film without a ton of substance and a lot of hitting the “I believe” button. It is a summer blockbuster released in the fall that should be seen in a theater with a big bag of popcorn. Mike loved Red Notice giving it 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand had a tough time hitting the “I believe” button so much. He awards the film 2.5 out of 5 Reels.

For our next pod Mike and Matt venture back to the theaters to catch another victim of COVD-19, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week.

Episode #240: Tributary – Kate

This is it listeners, our last podcast before HARVEST HORROR FEST! Today Mike and Matt chat about the Netflix Original assassin revenge film Kate starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson. Bonus topics include Japan, Anthony Bourdain, and being tall.

Just what the guys needed, another action assassin revenge movie but this time in Japan. Kate is a story we have seen and reviewed time and time again. What sets this film apart from the others is it’s stunts, location, and acting. Taking in place in Japan and using Japanese actors and stunt professionals makes Kate a true visual delight crammed with martial arts. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and newcomer Miku Patricia Martineau have excellent chemistry. One of the few misses the film has is it’s lack of Woody Harrelson. Mike loved Kate! He did not anticipate it being such a great film and that might have added to his rating. He gives it 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also really enjoyed the movie but thought the story had been told too many times before. He gives Kate 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

Next week our annual Harvest Horror Fest begins with the modern horror classic The Strangers currently streaming on Netflix too. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week.

Episode #238: Tributary – Jolt

Sorry everyone, we suck! Yeah we missed our normal pod day but hey we got er done. Matt and Mike are both very busy, especially Mike preparing to add to his brood. Today the guys chat about an Amazon Original, Jolt starring Kate Beckinsale and Stanley Tucci. Not action murder movie topics include westerns, Arizona Rattlers lose, and Y: The Last Man.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you mixed Jon Wick with Crank and tossed in some Kate Beckinsale, wonder no more! That film is here and it’s called Jolt. This flick is not going to win any awards but it sure is a ton of fun. Fast action, vibrant colors, a great cast, and a decent story, what else do you want? Beckinsale plays a character that can’t control her anger, subsequently leading her to self-inflicted shock therapy until she meets the man of her dreams. He is murdered by his boss and it is all out revenge for the rest of the film.

Mike and Matt both agree this is well worth the watch if you are into action or revenge movies. Mike awards Jolt a modest 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt rates the film a full reel higher with 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

Next week Mike and Matt return to the theaters to catch Clint Eastwood’s latest Cry Macho. Hopefully we will record on time next week too. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week.
