Episode #247: Tributary – Red Notice

Happy Wednesday boys and girls! Today your host’s Mike and Matt chat about a summer blockbuster that was released on Netflix in November; Red Notice starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds. Extra pod thoughts include Dragon Boobs, Indiana Jones, and The Rock 4 President.

The timing for Red Notice is either genius or a big mistake. This film is nonstop action that takes place all over the globe. It stars three of the biggest actors of 2021. Lastly the story is a cross between the National Treasure and James Bond franchises. Oh Netflix, why didn’t you release this one in May or June? Red Notice is a heck of a fun film without a ton of substance and a lot of hitting the “I believe” button. It is a summer blockbuster released in the fall that should be seen in a theater with a big bag of popcorn. Mike loved Red Notice giving it 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt on the other hand had a tough time hitting the “I believe” button so much. He awards the film 2.5 out of 5 Reels.

For our next pod Mike and Matt venture back to the theaters to catch another victim of COVD-19, Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week.

Episode #240: Tributary – Kate

This is it listeners, our last podcast before HARVEST HORROR FEST! Today Mike and Matt chat about the Netflix Original assassin revenge film Kate starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson. Bonus topics include Japan, Anthony Bourdain, and being tall.

Just what the guys needed, another action assassin revenge movie but this time in Japan. Kate is a story we have seen and reviewed time and time again. What sets this film apart from the others is it’s stunts, location, and acting. Taking in place in Japan and using Japanese actors and stunt professionals makes Kate a true visual delight crammed with martial arts. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and newcomer Miku Patricia Martineau have excellent chemistry. One of the few misses the film has is it’s lack of Woody Harrelson. Mike loved Kate! He did not anticipate it being such a great film and that might have added to his rating. He gives it 4.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also really enjoyed the movie but thought the story had been told too many times before. He gives Kate 3.5 out of 5 Reels.

Next week our annual Harvest Horror Fest begins with the modern horror classic The Strangers currently streaming on Netflix too. Thank you for your continued support of our podcast and we will chat at you next week.

Episode #205: Tributary – The Midnight Sky

Happy snow days! The white stuff really came down in northern Arizona this week and mucked things up for a few days. Speaking of muck, 2021 continues the awfulness of 2020. Feels like it has been a year already and January is not even over yet! Back to the pod, today your hosts Mike Talent and Matt discuss the new Netflix Original directed by and starring George Clooney, The Midnight Sky. Other topics include booze filled seltzers, Aliens the movie, and how your hosts are broken.

A movie directed by Clooney, starring Clooney, and it takes place in space, awesome lets do this! Not so fast, The Midnight Sky has a whole lot to say but it wants you to figure it out. The acting was great, the special effects were really good, almost too good, and the story is very deep but this movie has issues. It really drags and leaves you asking lots of questions. The film has a few characters and they are never really developed. Towards the end of the movie you really do not care what happens to them. The Midnight Sky is a well done smart film but it is not a must see. Mike Talent continues his streak of beating out Matt with 2.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt inches closer towards Mike’s leniency but not quite awarding it 2 out of 5 Reels.

Next week it is Mike’s pick and he chose the brand new police drama film The Little Things starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto. Catch it in theaters and HBO Max starting Friday January 29. Thank you for supporting our podcast and we will chat at you next week.

Episode #185: Tributary – Project Power

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today Mike and Matt sit down to chat about one of Netflix’s latest Original Films Project Power starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Non superhero related topics include Fortnite, movie theaters opening back up, and win a Blu-ray copy of The King of Staten Island.

Netflix has done it again, what a fun popcorn action flick! The acting was great, the sets are dark and gritty, and the CGI is the best of any Netflix Original Film. Jamie Foxx does a great job as Major, a man on a mission to find his daughter, but one of the best performances turned in was by relative unknown Dominique Fishback. A low profile TV actress, Dominique does an excellent job as a lost teenage drug dealer trying to find her way in the superhero powered New Orleans.

Mike Talent, not knowing what to expect, really loved this film! He gives it a high rating of 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt also enjoyed Project Power giving it an above average rating of 3.5 out of 5 Reels. If you have Netflix and some time to spare (who doesn’t right now) then this movie is perfect for you.

Next week we are holding back on going to the theaters, for now. The boys are spending $25 each to catch a brand new movie Bill & Ted Face the Music. For you youngsters out there the original two films are cult classics and the role Keanu Reeves was born to play! Don’t forget to enter our giveaway for a free Blu-Ray copy of The King of Staten Island. Thanks for listening and we will chat at you next week!

Episode #182: Tributary – Extinction

Happy Wednesday everyone! Mysterious Mike Talent finally picked a film for review this week. Another Netflix Original and this one is a couple of years old. The SciFi thriller Extinction starring Michael Pena and Lizzy Caplan. Other topics include Four Peaks releases their Pumpkin Porter early, SpaceX splashdown, and what order to watch the Star Wars films.

This is the first time in a while the guys do not agree on a film. Mike really enjoyed Extinction, especially the story. Matt on the other hand thought the only thing worth while in this film is the huge slap in the face twist. The acting was subdued and nothing special.  The computer generated imagery was awful, especially one scene towards the end of the movie. If you are not into SciFi and big Twilight Zone style twists you might want to pass on this film, if you ask Matt. Mike on the other hand thinks it is definitely worth a watch being only 90 minutes long and easily available on Netflix. He graciously awards the film 3 out of 5 Reels. Matt uncharacteristically with a lower rating gives Extinction 2 out of 5 Reels, barely.

Next week we plan on having a newer movie review and giveaway! We were lucky to be contacted by the studio that produced The King of Staten Island and they will be providing us with some giveaway copies. Make sure to listen to next weeks episode for your chance to win. Thanks for listening to our pod, hopefully you enjoyed it as much as we did. Chat at you next week!
